It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for the Moooseum Ice Cream Fact of the Day!

Sorbet versus Sherbet versus Sherbert! Do you know the differences?

Sorbet is a frozen treat, made with fruit, and does not have dairy or eggs in it. Italian Ice is another name for the same kind of treat, although in different parts of the world they may refer to slightly different things.

Sherbet is made with fruit, and has at least some dairy, but significantly less butterfat than ice cream. That gives it a different texture.

In the US, Sherbert is just a different spelling for Sherbet. In other parts of the world, it can refer to a powder meant to be stirred into a drink.

Also, the terms Sorbet and Italian Ice are more or less interchangeable in the US. There may be subtle differences, especially in the size of the ice crystals, but it should be basically the same thing.

Have a great week!
